Call for Programs

Spectrum is pleased to announce the Female Composers' Festival, chaired by pianist Shiau-uen Ding.

The Festival is planned for the following days in June 2018:

Saturday 2 June
Sunday 3 June
Friday 8 June
Saturday 9 June
Sunday 10 June

If we have a sufficient number of strong proposals, we will with pleasure add more dates to the festival.

We are looking for proposals of programs that, not surprisingly, are filled with music written by women. We would like to provide a range of experiences, focusing (as usual) on the music of the 20th and 21st Centuries, and also hopefully having some significant early-music presence as well. For the latter, Hildegard von bingen (pictured) is an obvious choice (and indeed an acceptable one), but the less-obvious is distinctly welcome.

Spectrum concerts are usually single-set events of 35 - 55 minutes in length. Proposed programs do not need to fit exactly with this format, but there should be good a reason for doing otherwise (e. g., an ambitiously-long piece). We would also welcome program proposals of two or three sets that fill an evening.

Please submits proposals for programs to Shiau-uen Ding at

Please also feel free to propose less-obvious names for the Festival.

We look forward to hearing from you.
